Apple will begin offering storefront product sales and service at a handful of its Bay Area stores this week, and reopen six of its California retail outlets for in-store shopping as part of the effort to kickstart an economy ravaged by the impact of the coronavirus crisis.
An Apple spokesperson provided this news organization with a list of Bay Area stores that will reopen this week for storefront sales and service. Those stores include:
- 4th Street in Berkeley
- Apple Park Visitor Center and Apple’s Infinite Loop locations in Cupertino
- Bay Street in Emeryville
- Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek
- Burlingame
- Chestnut Street and Union Square stores in San Francisco
- Corte Madera
- Los Gatos
- Palo Alto and Stanford stores in Palo Alto
- Hillsdale in San Mateo
Apple also said its Santa Rosa Plaza store will be open for drive up curbside services and product purchases.
An Apple spokesperson said the stores will be reopening on various days, and recommended that anyone interested in visiting one of the locations check Apple’s online store list for information about store hours.
None of the local Apple stores are yet open for in-store shopping. While customers can purchase and pick up products at the specific Apple storefronts, the company is encouraging customers to do as much shopping as possible online, and have purchases delivered to their homes for the time being.
“We are committed to reopening our stores in a very thoughtful manner with the health and safety of our customers and teams as our top priority, and we look forward to seeing our customers again soon,” Apple said, in a statement.
Apple will begin offering in-store shopping at six California stores on Wednesday in Carlsbad, San Diego, at its Fashion Valley and UTC Mall locations, Santa Barbara, Brea and Chula Vista. Apple currently has a total of 53 stores in California.
Prior to last week, Apple had kept all of its stores in California, and across the U.S., closed since late March, when shelter-in-place protocols went into effect around the country as part of the attempt to slow the spread of coronavirus.
Last week, Apple began reopening some of its California stores, such as those in Modesto and Bakersfield, for in-store or storefront shopping. The company expects to have about 130 of its 271 U.S. stores open in some form by the end of this week.
