FREMONT — The Alameda County Water District board has promoted Ed Stevenson to serve as the district’s new general manager.
The district, which provides water to roughly 350,000 homes in Fremont, Newark and Union City, announced Wednesday that Stevenson, a 24-year district employee, will take over after current general manager Robert Shaver retires on July 1 following 30 years of service.
Stevenson started at the district as an environmental engineer and is currently manager of engineering and technology services, the district said.
“Stevenson’s professional experience spans water utility engineering, operations and management, including water production, capital projects, new development, water quality, water supply, information technology, rates and charges, and customer service,” the district statement said.
“I am proud to have been selected to work with the board and all of ACWD’s dedicated employees in service to our customers,” Stevenson said in a written statement.
Stevenson will become the 10th general manager in the district’s 107-year history, the district said.
Stevenson’s salary last year was $250,416 and his annual compensation package including benefits totaled $345,303, according to district spokesperson Sharene Gonzales.
Shaver’s annual compensation package totaled about $410,000.
The base salary range for the general manager position is between $253,755 and $308,447, “plus excellent benefits,” according to the recruitment brochure for the position. Stevenson’s contract for the general manager position is still being negotiated, Gonzales said.
