Trendy taco purveyor Tacolicious has closed two of it Bay Area restaurants.
The locations at Santana Row in San Jose and in San Francisco’s North Beach have been shuttered permanently “due to the current economic climate and Covid,” co-owner Sara Deseran said.
Deseran and Joe Hargrave, who started with a farmers market taco stand and then one hip place in San Francisco’s Marina district, have expanded beyond that city in recent years, with customers lining up for their re-imagined tacos with fillings such as guajillo-braised beef and roasted cauliflower and griddled Oaxacan cheese.
The Santana Row location opened in late 2016.
“Our other locations (Palo Alto, Mission, Marina and Manhattan Beach in L.A., which was opened right when the pandemic first hit) are doing well considering the world is upside down,” Deseran said. “We have parklets and roofs and heaters and a lot of tequila.”
Still, the coming months will be challenging, she said.
“We’ll see how the winter goes. Hoping for a stimulus package like all small businesses. It will be critical.”
