The full-out reunion that “Friends” fans long have clamored for is about to happen — on HBO Max.

The new streaming service announced on Friday that the show’s six core stars — Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Lisa Kudrow, Matt LeBlanc, Matthew Perry and David Schwimmer — have closed a deal to reunite for an unscripted special.

The special, along with all 236 episodes of “Friends,” will be available in May when HBO Max launches.

The six stars will return to Stage 24 on the Warner Bros. Studio lot in Burbank for a celebration of the mega-hit NBC comedy. All six of them will executive-produce alongside original series executive producers Kevin Bright, Marta Kauffman and David Crane. “Friends” debuted in

“Guess you could call this the one where they all got back together — we are reuniting with David, Jennifer, Courteney, Matt, Lisa, and Matthew for an HBO Max special that will be programmed alongside the entire Friends library,” said Kevin Reilly, chief content officer, HBO Max and president, TBS, TNT, and truTV. “I became aware of Friends when it was in the very early stages of development and then had the opportunity to work on the series many years later and have delighted in seeing it catch on with viewers generation after generation.

“It taps into an era when friends – and audiences – gathered together in real time and we think this reunion special will capture that spirit, uniting original and new fans.”

Sources tell THR that the cast, who all negotiated as one, will earn more than double their former per-episode fee for the reunion and be paid between $2.5 million and $3 million for the special. The cast made headlines when they renegotiated their salaries together during the show’s original run to earn a then-historic $1 million per episode.

HBO Max will be the latest entry in Hollywood’s burgeoning streaming wars, joining Netflix, Hulu, Amazon, Disney+, Apple TV+ and others in the battle for eyeballs. At a cost of $14.99 per month, it will offer original programming, along with content from the vaults of HBO and Warner Bros.

In December, Warner Bros. pulled “Friends” episodes from Netflix in anticipation of its May launch.

TBS, a WarnerMedia sibling, recently announced that for the next four weeks every episode of “Friends” will air on TBS and livestream on the TBS app, weekdays from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m.. Additionally, the network has curated an experience for fans offering the best of the series on their digital platforms.

The “Friends” cast, minus Perry, previously reunited in 2016 for an NBC special that paid tribute to legendary TV director James Burrows. According to TVline.com, the last time all six of them appeared on screen together was during a post-series finale interview with Oprah Winfrey that aired on May 7, 2004.
