Lauren Sanchez filed for divorce from Patrick Whitesell Friday, the day after Jeff Bezos’s now-ex-wife Mackenzie Bezos announced that she and the mega-billionaire had finalized the dissolution of their marriage.
So, with Bezos and Sanchez wrapping up their divorces, the question now becomes if and when the famous lovers, reportedly separated by scandal, will find their way back to each other.
The Amazon founder and the TV personality reportedly vowed to remain physically apart until their divorces were finalized. Page Six said that Bezos, 55, and Sanchez, 49, remain “deeply in love,” despite the various high-stakes controversies that have surrounded their love affair.
Citing a Hollywood source, Page Six also said the two “talk all the time, but she wants to stay low-key until their divorces are final, when they will be together.”
TMZ reported Friday that Sanchez “has made her move to clear the decks” for Bezos by filing for divorce from Whitesell, a Hollywood agent. Legal documents obtained by TMZ showed that Sanchez and Whitesell had worked with famed Hollywood divorce attorney Laura Wasser to settle custody, property and other issues.
“All the issues are now settled,” TMZ reported. “All that’s left is waiting the six months it takes for the divorce to become final.”
But if Sanchez’s divorce won’t officially be final for six months, does that mean she’ll wait six months before she starts spending time with Bezos? Will the two want to wait that long before they start going out together in public?
Bezos’ now-ex-wife Mackenzie Bezos sounded as if she was ready to move on in a tweet she posted Thursday that announced that she and Bezos had finalized things from their end.
Mackenzie Bezos tweeted: “Grateful to have finished the process of dissolving my marriage with Jeff with support from each other and everyone who reached out to us in kindness …”
In saying she looked forward to “my own plans,” Mackenzie Bezos also announced that their divorce settlement allows Bezos to retain 75 percent ownership of their Amazon stock. Mackenzie Bezos still comes away with stock valued at around $36 billion, which makes her the third-richest person on earth.
Meanwhile, Sanchez told friends that she and Bezos had not seen each other since the National Enquirer broke the story about their affair on Jan. 9, Page Six reported.
The Enquirer story came with excerpts from racy, intimate texts that the couple exchanged. The story also was published a few hours after the formerly private Bezos decided to go public with the news that he and Mackenzie were getting a divorce after 25 years.
Page Six reported that Sanchez wanted to stay apart and keep things low-key, mostly in order to protect the privacy of their children. “They also felt it was the right thing to do,” the source told Page Six.
Sanchez and Whitesell have two children, ages 12 and 10. She also has a teenage son from her relationship with former NFL tight end Tony Gonzalez. Jeff and Mackenzie Bezos are the parents of three sons and a daughter adopted from China. Their ages are not immediately known.
There had been rumors that Bezos, the world’s richest person and an emerging Hollywood mogul, would go public with his love for Sanchez by bringing her to the Academy Awards on Feb. 24, but that didn’t happen. There also was a report from Page Six that Bezos and Sanchez actually enjoyed a Valentine Day’s rendezvous in New York City, holing up in one of the luxury Park Avenue condominiums he owns.
Certainly, if Bezos wants to get together with his girlfriend but keep things “low key,” he certainly has the resources to find a way. Then again, maybe the announcement by Mackenzie Bezos, and Sanchez filing for divorce, signals that Bezos, who also owns the Washington Post, and Sanchez are ready to launch their next chapter together.
This chapter is likely to include some high-profile appearances on Hollywood red carpets or at gala events in the worlds of politics, entertainment, media and business. Sanchez is a creature of Hollywood, and Bezos has appeared to embrace his new celebrity, with his Amazon Studios transforming the tech titan into a major Hollywood player.
