The Bottom Line: What is an Expedition? An Expedition is a full size 3 row SUV built in the Kentucky Ford assembly plant and sold in North America by the Ford Motor Company. The Limited Edition steps up the Expedition game with luxurious extras, including leather trimmed seats, a panoramic vista moonroof  and ambient lighting. The Expedition starts at $54,155 and easily crosses the $80,000 mark when fully loaded.

The Limited Edition has the 3.5L liter EcoBoost V6 gas engine with 400 HP horsepower and 480 lb-ft of torque. The transmission is a 10 speed automatic with SelectShift, and it’s bolted to an intelligent 4×4 four wheel drive traction control system. The Expedition 4×4 is capable of towing a maximum of up to 9,200 lbs, when equipped with the optional Heavy Duty Trailer Tow Package, which this SUV has.

This week Ford sent me a 2023 Ford Expedition Limited 7 passenger 4×4 SUV with a base window sticker price of $67,345. The options on the test SUV are: the Stealth Edition package for $9,880, the metallic tinted paint for $395, the heavy duty trailer towing package for $795, the sport tuned suspension system for $995, the electronically controlled 4×4 traction system with an electronic 3.73 rear locking differential for $1,100  and the 15.5″ LCD center stack screen with touch captioning for $795. The MSRP manufactures suggested retail price, including the $1,695 destination charge, is: $83,000.

After adding in the state and local sales tax, plus the DMV and dealer fees, the out the door and in your driveway total purchase price came to: $93,375. At over $90 Grand this full size SUV is in the luxury SUV class, which starts at $75,000 for this segment. The $93K price is in line with all the full size upscale competition in this class and the Ford Expedition is a fine example of a perfect blend of comfort, power, utility and technology.

With 400 HP horsepower and 480 lbs. of torque on tap, the 2023 Expedition has the power to easily merge into commuter traffic, or tow your trailer to the lake. The driveline is enhanced by every electronic and tech option Ford has available to make your trip the safest and most comfortable drive every day.

Comfort starts with a full Onyx leather seat interior with contrasting red stitching, a leather wrapped tilt and telescopic heated steering wheel with multi function controls, power adjustable foot pedals, heated and ventilated front seats, heated 2nd row captain chairs, ambient lighting, tri zone automatic climate control and a 10 way drivers power seat, just to name a few of the best options on the Limited model.

The Stealth Edition features the HO high output 3.5L liter EcoBoost V6 gas engine that increases the HP from 380 to 400, and it’s supported by a sport tuned suspension system that’s designed to provide a very smooth, yet engaging ride.

In addition to its upgraded performance, the Stealth Package adds unique elements like black painted styling on the front grill, black side mirrors, and a black rear bumper, in addition to blacked out exterior badging. Then you step up in style with a set of 22″ premium black painted aluminum alloy wheels, shinny gloss black power deployable running boards, and several more black accents inside and out. It’s the Stealth black trim package that makes this Expedition really stand out from the crowd.

The 2023 full size SUV class has only 6 nameplates to choose from, and they are: the Chevy Suburban, GMC Yukon XL, Jeep Wagoneer, Toyota Sequoia, Nissan Armada and the Ford Expedition. With only a 1/2 dozen vehicles for sale in this $60,000 to $80,000 price range to choose from, you have to be at the top of your game to be a contender.

The Ford Expedition checks off all the right boxes to be declared a winner, with great features that you will appreciate, and it deserves a spot on your must see list before you sign on the dotted line. Give Ford a chance, and you will be surprised to see how easy an Expedition Limited can put a smile on your face.

So, when you’re ready to buy a new full size 3 row SUV, the 2023 Ford Expedition Limited should be on your ride and drive list, as it’s one of the best priced, best optioned, and one of the best looking SUV’s in the full size class.
